World Snowboard Day :
World Snowboard Day (WSD), is an annual celebration of the sport of snowboarding that takes place in December. Founded in 2006 in Europe by EuroSIMA and The World Snowboard Federation, WSD is rapidly expanding into Asia and North America. Here's why people take part...
1. To Celebrate Snowboarding: Last year in Europe, the event, which organizers have dubbed "Snowboard D-Day," grew for its second occurrence and events took place in Europe, Russia, Eastern Europe, Asia, USA, Canada. Created by Remi Forsans and coordinated by EuroSIMA and the WSF (World Snowboard Federation), the goal of the World Snowboard Day is to promote snowboarding, its culture, and launch the winter sports season with a strong event open to everyone.
2. Promote The Sport : Different actors of the snowboard scene will share their passion with the general public. Snow resorts, federations, clubs, shops, pro riders, associations and boardsports brands get together to promote the sport.
3. Spread the Addiction : The event is designed to create events that spread awareness of the sport and get people hooked on it. Be cautious! You could be addicted!
4. A free party ! : Concerts, BBQs, demos, contests, parties, free lessons, free testing of the latest snowboards, discounts on lift tickets... are part of the events associated with WSD. All ideas are welcome to celebrate the World Snowboard Day!
Here's a list of some activities that have been sponsored by resorts, manufacturers, and groups in the past:
* A full range of free activities. * Free lessons & product testing. * Snowboard clubs and shops offer free programs for the publis to test new equipment and raise awareness. * Clubs, resorts, associations, and riders organize contests and demos. The idea is to enable the best riders to show their performances and to help others improve. * BBQ & free food: On the slopes, snowparks or behind the organizers' chalets, free food and BBQ are often available. * DJs, live concerts & parties : Have you ever seen a riding event without music and party? Of course not... all these daily activities take place with a good sound selection and several bars and night clubs often host parties or booked trendy DJs and live concerts to celebrate the snowboard * Accommodation & lift-ticket discounts: If your budget is (unfortunately) not as important as your motivation, you still can choose the resort who makes lift tickets or offers accommodation discounts. * Lots of snowboard professionals feel responsible for the general public education on subjects such as environment and safety in the mountains. Some of them will propose awareness programs to inform and educate people in snow resorts. * Pictures exhibitions: A rider is sensitive of the nature’s beauty and is often looking for wilder spots and sensational experiences. All conditions are put together to make some riders really good photographers. * Kids & teens snowboard trips : We’ve often said that the younger you begin a sport the better you’ll be. Some associations keep it in mind and will take the young generation to snow resorts and celebrate snowboarding with their big brothers.
