The Summer Set is an electropop band from Scottsdale, Arizona. After forming in 2007, the band quickly found local success. They are now signed to independent record label The Militia Group and have begun work on their first full-length album, titled …In Color. The Summer Set's style is guitar-driven pop accentuated with digital elements such as synthesizers, programming, and vocoders, comparable to mainstream acts such as hellogoodbye.
History
The Summer Set formed in spring 2007 following the break-up of local group Last Call for Camden. Ex-members of Camden were looking for a new vocalist, and turned to friend Brian Dales. At the time, Dales was the vocalist of powerpop group Silhouette Skyline, but found time to rehearse with both acts. Following the break-up of Silhouette Skyline later that summer, Dales was able to turn his full attention to the new band, which had recently named itself The Summer Set.
The Summer Set settled on a five piece line up of a vocalist, two guitars, bass, and drums. While playing local shows in Phoenix and Tempe, the band focused on writing material. Wanting high quality recordings for the band's MySpace page, the group decided to enter the studio. The Summer Set recorded two tracks at Love Juice Labs in Phoenix. The songs attracted a surprisingly large interest from fans, and various record labels were quick to take notice.
Multiple record labels, including The Militia Group and Fueled by Ramen Records, contacted The Summer Set, conveying interest in signing them. During this time the group recorded their five song debut EP, titled Love the Love You Have. Finally committing to a label, The Summer Set signed with The Militia Group in spring 2008, an independent record label which started the careers of notable acts Acceptance, Cartel, and The Rocket Summer. Unfortunately, the band parted ways at this time with one of their guitarists.
Current Activity
The current Summer Set lineup is vocalist Brian Dales, brothers John and Steven Gomez playing guitar and bass respectively, and drummer Jess Bowen. The group is spending summer 2008 on an east coast tour before returning to the studio this fall. They will be working on …In Color, their first full-length album.
