Plot summary
Lost and oppressed by fear, a foreign species attempts to survive in the human realm after fleeing their decaying world.
The humans call this species Inborn and since their arrival, earth has mutated into a domain of monstrous creatures, deadly plant life and toxic air. As human and Inborn battle for existence, earth spirals rapidly into a world doomed to extinction.
Bordering the battleground, in a city where tyranny and treachery are widespread, an Inborn girl faces a conflict of her own.
She finds her mind erased of all memory and must discover the unknown enemies that surround her while evading detection by the humans who hunt and conduct barbaric experiments on her kind. As she uncovers the secrets of her lost memories, she realizes that her very existence may be more catastrophic than the war itself.
Characters
*Barbella Blakwin: The protagonist of The Steel Inferno awakes in the woods with no memory of who or what she is. Unaware, mistrustful and at a loss to separate her allies from her enemies without being detected by the humans who capture and conduct barbaric experiments on her kind, she blindly navigates the merciless and savage world which has come to exist.
*Jax Styx: An Inborn man, belonging to the class of the Mystisch. His past remains unclear even to his closest of friends and his undisclosed purpose for residing in Hollowsteel City is one asked of him by the Lord of his class.
*Hadrian Drexulous-Durr: The Hunter sent from the Inborn city of Blackport to kill the Welyx, which has awoken from its twenty-five year hibernation.
*Captain Reznik: The soldier sent from the Ninth City to be the New Captain of Hollowsteel City’s defensive forces. He is a slaughterer of Inborn and a ruthless leader.
*Chancellor Leathertongue: Hollowsteel City’s greedy and self-absorbed ruler, who places his pursuit of wealth, amusement and pleasure above his own people.
*Drood Frogfire: The proprietor of Hollowsteel City’s Trading Center and of the Mystisch Class. He is the primary companion of Jax Styx and assists him in his assignments from the Lord of their Class.
*Grimm Absinthe: The leading Mortician and Graveyard Sentry of Hollowsteel City. He is of the Spectral Class and strongly conflicts with Barbella. He holds an obsessive fascination with a small, silver mirror which he keeps with him at all times; though what it reflects is unknown to all but him.
*Ivy Leathertongue: Wife of Chancellor Leathertongue and regarded as the most beautiful girl in all of Hollowsteel City. She was formerly a close friend of Barbella and underwent a romantic relationship with her brother, Wentworth, but married Leathertongue after being led to believe that he had died in the war against Inborn.
The Steel Inferno World
Conception
The Steel Inferno takes place on the planet earth in the year 2085, 25 years after the arrival of Inborn.
Earth’s air was contaminated upon their arrival and is now toxic, prompting humans and Inborn to wear a respiratory apparatus (gas mask) when outdoors.
The toxic air mutated earth’s plant life into a deadly substance as well as the majority of earth’s animals, fish, and birds.
Many animals that were once harmless have become monstrous, dangerous beings.
Certain areas of the world are practically prehistoric due to the apocalyptic event of the arrival of Inborn; but others, thrive greatly and are technologically advanced, keeping a significant supply of resources.
The Inborn
The Inborn race consists of five classes: Shifter, Mystisch, Hematic, Spectral, and Necromancer
*Shifter - In the left palm of every Shifter’s left hand lies a Veliphite. It is a mass of web-like strands which connect together at the center, forming a mask. When the left palm is placed against the face of a Shifter, the mask of the Veliphite emerges and they have the ability to take their second form. The Shifters are ruled by Lord Alcander.
*Spectral - The Spectral are spirits. They inhabit the bodies of others giving them control over their thoughts and physical capabilities. They require extreme cold and have the power to leave the body at will. The Spectral often battle one another for a host. The Spectral are ruled by Lord Grigori.
*Necromancer - The Necromancers bodies are built to maintain immense power. Necromancers attempt to master the five elements, fire, water, wind, earth, and metal. To master one of these elements is a grand achievement. Only one Necromancer in the history of their race has mastered four. The Necromancers are ruled by Lord Chandranth.
*Hematics - The Hematics possess a different cell structure from the other classes and are the ones most distorted by the mutation caused by the planet Earth. They suffer from an incurable virus which can be transferred to another through saliva. They are hypersensitive to the light source on Earth and eventually became nocturnal. They hold the longest life span of any class. The Hematics are ruled by Lord Wolfgang.
*Mystisch - The Mystisch are the only varied class of Inborn. They possess abilities which cannot be categorized and are considered the most unpredictable. The Mystisch are ruled by Lord Drakkar.
An original Steampunk (Futuristic/Post Apocalyptic/ Dystopian)
Technology has advanced backward in certain areas of the world, while in others, it has vastly improved.
It also refers to the artistic style of clothing. Metal is found in the majority of clothes, all machinery, transportation, living areas, and even in replacement of severed or damaged limbs. Some people (primarily humans) willingly amputate their own limbs out of a desire to possess inhuman strength and agility.
