The Sound Manifesto

The Sound Manifesto is a set of principles to promote better sound awareness among filmmakers.
The Sound Manifesto
* We believe that sound plays a critical role in any movie production and deserves the same attention as photography.
* We believe that sound communicates most of the story and emotional impact.
* We believe that effective sound planning starts in preproduction.
* We believe that movie productions should have a Director of Sound to manage and quality control the Sound Department from preproduction to postproduction.
* We believe the Director, Director of Sound, Director of Photography and Art Director should work as a closely collaborative management team.
* We believe that to acquire high-quality sound, the Sound Department needs the cooperation of every department key and every production team member.
* We believe that to communicate the importance of high-quality sound to a production team, the Sound Department needs the active support of the Directors and Producers.

The Sound Manifesto was conceived by The Sound Manifesto

organisation founder after a question was raised with the RAMPS
newsgroup community in August 2000
which concluded in the writing of "An Open Letter From Your Sound Department" by John Coffey and his colleagues ;
