The Script-a-thon is a screenwriting marathon and competition founded in 2009 by a triad of Hollywood screenwriters (Anne Norda, Matt Giegerich and Chelsea Mize) to encourage peer screenwriters to see their scripts through to completion. The Script-a-thon is particularly notable for the 'marathon' aspect of the competition, as no other screenwriting contest provides writers a 30-day window during which to write. Writers compete during this window, racing to finish their scripts in time for submission. Scripts are then judged by hand selected judges in 5 genres. In 2009, the judges (and their respective categories), were as follows: * Action/Adventure Favorite - Judged by Renny Harlin (director, Die Hard 2) * Overall Favorite - Judged by Scott Rosenfelt (producer, Home Alone) * Comedy Favorite - Judged by Steve Mazur (writer, Liar Liar) * Horror/Thriller Favorite - Judged by Danny Draven(horror director) * Drama Favorite - Judged by Doug Mankoff (producer, Thirteen - - president, Echo Lake Productions) The contest culminates in a reading of the "Overall Favorite" script at an LA theater in November of each year. 2010 Winners Grand Prize Winner * Under the Pillow by Carla Robinson Action Adventure Winner * Crawl by Gregory Scott Houghton Comedy Winner * Your Horoscope for Today by Carl Zimmerman Drama Winner * The Cause by Billy Noon Horror Winner * Contract by Jerrod Brennen Sponsors * the New York Film Academy * Movie Magic Screenwriter * TV Film Rights
