The Rome Review is an American literary magazine based in Washington, DC. The Rome Review journal was conceived in the Summer of 2008 by Washington, DC writer Tarek al-Hariri. The mission was to create a journal that was a "literary magazine" that would be graphically a "a gallery of modern and contemporary arts and letters." By bringing together creative innovative writers and talented photographers, Editor Tarek Al-Hariri and Managing Editor Luke Drotar have given the magazine a well-forged content rooted in a desire to engage the current world, and provide a broad platform to debate today’s often contradictory realities. History The magazine is the brainchild of its Editor, Tarek Al-Hariri, and Assistant Editors Blake Gaines and Gregory Nanni, all of the George Washington University. Planning for the magazine began in late 2008 with the encouragement of University President Steven Knapp. The GWU Department of English supported the project by temporarily housing the ever growing operations of the student editorial board and staff. By early 2009, The Rome Review’s reading committee had received a wealth of submissions and the project was moving quickly forward. With the support of its contributors and the encouragement of friends, The Rome Review moved from concept to realization when Washington, DC’s GDG Publications became the magazine’s publisher. Overview The Rome Review publishes both fiction and non-fiction as well as poetry, and it also publishes interviews it commissions with important literary figures.
