The Pal

The Pal is a structure used in longform theatrical improvisation. Invented by Bill Posley, Steven Randolph and Aaron Mliner in 2012 while touring with their improv group Hey Pal. The Pal is unique in that it marries Stand Up and Improvisational comedy-two communities that normally do not perform together onstage at the same time.
The structure of The Pal is:
Monologue By host or house team
Stand Up set #1 (3-5 minutes in length)
Team #1 (10-15 minute improv set based on stand up's previous material)
Stand Up set #2 (3-5 minutes in length)
Team #2 (10-15 minute improv set based on stand up's previous material)
Stand Up set #3 (3-5 minutes in length)
Team #3 (10-15 minute improv set based on stand up's previous material)
Stand Up set #4 (3-5 minutes in length)
Team #4 (10-15 minute improv set based on stand up's previous material)
Improvisational Jam with all the teams and audience members (5-10 minutes)
Players are encouraged to call back the most interesting punchlines and stories from the stand up comedians, and also to intertwine them.
