The Order of the Black Sheep is an Anglican Missional Order based in Chesterfield UK, committed to exploring and living out the gospel together. The Order was commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury in September 2011. The Order is led by The Reverend Mark Broomhead, also known for his work as bassist/front man for Detritus and Bassist with Seventh Angel and Fire Fly The Order gets it's name from the fact that Black sheep were traditionally considered undesirable, their wool of little value, even considered by some as a mark of the devil. The order aims to be a home for the marginalised, those who feel maybe a bit like the black sheep of society, even the black sheep of the church. The Order is based at "The Gates" and Alternative Cafe and Chapel in the centre of Chesterfield. . Amongst other things "The Order" is known for it's work among the metal and biker communities. The Order is separated into three "houses" based on the following statements: House of Faith “I am not sure what I believe but I like what you stand for and would like to explore with you.” or “I stand for what you believe in and I want to support you in prayer/gifts.” House of Hope “I agree with your statement of faith and I want to commit be a part of your dispersed community. With Gods help I commit to live by the community rule working out a personal plan in ongoing relationship with a community companion and I wish to support the work of the community.” House of Love “I want to commit to be a part of the community involved in its day to day life. With Gods help I commit to live by the community rule working out a personal plan in ongoing relationship with a community companion and I wish to be a part of the work, mission and worship of the physical gathered community.” The common code of the order is.
