The New Song is a special song utilizing God’s name to praise God. It is mentioned once in the Book of Isaiah and six times in the Psalms, urging people to sing to God the New Song. Targum Jonathan says that there are ten instances of song given in this world, the tenth one will be in the future, by the the exiled at the time that leave the exile. Thus Obadiah ben Jacob Sforno in his commentary on Psalms writes that the New Song is to be sung with the coming of the Messiah. Also in the prayer “Al Hakol” it says: “and so shall Your Name be hallowed with us, Hashem our God, to the eyes of all life, and we will say before Him a New Song as it is written ‘sing to God sing His name glorify the rider of the Aravos (heavens) with His name Y-ah and extol before Him’, and we will see Him eye to eye with His return to His dwelling etc.”. The Malbim writes that the New Song is a praise to God on His managing the world with which is not set according to the laws of nature rather it changes and is made new constantly according to the actions of people acting with free choice. The Zohar discusses the New Song in two places. In the Torah portion Pinchas and in the Tikunim the Zohar says that in the future when the falsehood is eliminated from the world, there will arise a song that is simple, double, triangular, squared, the Zohar continues to apply this formula to the Divine Name YHVH; Y, YH, YHV, YHVH (which has the numerical value of 72). The Zohar says that at that time there will be fulfillment of (the prayer) "and so the righteous will see and be happy and the straight will extol and the Hasidim will rejoice with praise". The Zohar in Pinchas concludes by stating that this will happen in the 6th millennium, and gives a hint to the exact time. Elsewhere the Zohar explains that the song that is simple, double, triangular, and squared, includes the ten types of songs and the ten Sephirot (1 and 2 and 3 and 4 = 10). Rabbi Nachman of Breslov pays considerable attention to the New Song. In his book Likutay Moharan it is explicitly mentioned and used three times, and there are many other allusions to the New Song. The ten types of song, which according to the above Zohar, are the composition of the New Song, are a very central theme in the teachings of Rabbi Nachman. Rabbi Nachman revealed and introduced the Tikkun HaKlali - general rectification, which is a cornerstone of his teachings and ways. The Tikkun HaKlali consists of ten Psalms representing all of the ten types of songs, which are the Song that is simple, double, triangular, square, which are included in the great and holy Divine Name. Rabbi Nathan of Breslov, Rabbi Nachman of Breslov's main disciple, discusses the New Song at great length in his books Likutey Halachos in 28 places. In Rabbi Nachman's book, Likutay Moharan, right after the introduction there is a "Pleasant Song" composed by Rabbi Nachman, which is introduced by a paragraph probably authored by Rabbi Nathan of Breslov. In this paragraph there is strong suggestion that Rabbi Nachman's name is the New Song. In 1922, Rabbi Yisroel Ber Odesser claimed to have received "The Petek" - a note, from Rabbi Nachman, which was signed Nachman in the above mentioned method; one letter - Na, two letters - NaCh, three letters - NaChMa, four letters - NaChMaN.
