The Last Glaciation

In "The Last Glaciation", the first of a four-part visual anthology titled "When Mankind Was Young", the artist Eric Torriente presents large scale paintings and sculptures with sceneries that leave the viewer wondering and pondering about the beginnings of mankind.

Descriptions of selected works from "The Last Glaciation"
The first work of "Part 1: The Last Glaciation" is titled "The Last Glaciation." The piece re-creates the scenes of people coming out after the last Glaciation which occurred thousands of years ago. The work serves as an omen to the earliest civilized man. Eric Torriente recreates not only a visual scenery, but a textual one in which the paintings and sculptures create the illusion of being archeological artifacts themselves.
The work titled "Slaying the Behemoth" depicts a fictitious mythological scene. The piece symbolizes the adventures of a primitive man who continues his journey as he must slay the notorious Behemoth for keeping a woman hostage atop a mountain. The painting is richly textured, while the sculpture is made of fiberglass, plaster, chicken wire and mixed oil paint. The work is complemented by a small charcoal and wash study on paper as well as a drawing that consists of four pieces on this subject matter.
The work "Hail Crystals" depicts a lone hunter gathering crystalized rocks from a dinosaur carcass atop a hill. The piece not only captures the essence of this lone hunters adventures, but also depicts man's quest for precious stones which leaves the viewer pondering philosophical questions.
