The Justice Film Festival

The Justice Film Festival was founded in 2013 by Andy Peterson and takes place annually in New York City at the Sheen Center.The annual gathering is dedicated to exploring the stories of vulnerable and oppressed people and ecosystems worldwide as a platform for conversation and connection. The festival takes special care to promote the works of female and minority filmmakers, and debuted April 2013 in Philadelphia before traveling to , , and . After partnering with the Sheen Center in New York, this became it's permanent location. The festival program line-up includes 18 narrative features and shorts, talk-backs, awards, and historically has had 2,400 people in attendance.
History
Andy Peterson founded the festival in 2013 with the vision of creating a gathering of films specifically tailored to exploring the themes of social justice. The Justice Film Festival is a juried contest with awards presented in the following categories: Best Feature Film, Best Short Film and Best Justice Film. The panel of judges includes filmmakers, entertainment executives, non-profit leaders, professors, social entrepreneurs, authors and recording artists. According to Andy Peterson, "The festival features a handpicked selection of films from both well-known and emerging filmmakers that move and inspire the aspirational community who seeks to live out justice in a broken world.We strive to curate a festival that is diverse in both content and geography. The Justice Film Festival has become known for offering new perspectives on topics well known and revealing stories of unexpected courage and redemption. And we believe that telling stories through art and film can shape global culture for the common good."

The Sheen Center's mission is to “highlight the true, the good and the beautiful”, and this is the reason they host the festival annually.

The Justice Film Festival is produced by Aspiration Studios, producers of film and television marketing and distribution, whose work has represented films like , 12 Years A Slave, Selma and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Before the Flood among many others.
