The High Trees

The High Trees was a Chilean band that stood out to make alternative rock with English lyrics, although the native language of its members is Spanish. It was founded in Chillán in the year 2006, originally took the name Le Mat. They started playing in the extint bar "Republika" Chillán, Chile. Its musical influences was mostly from the U.S. post punk with a touch of British music of the 80s and 90s.
Its name was taken by the lead singer of the band (Alexis Rojo) who watched the movie "Control" based on the life of Ian Curtis, he noticed a detail: on a wall a poster reads: "The high trees”. The members of the band took this name and give a new meaning, different readings. For some it evokes the melancholy and beautiful scenery of the mountains of South America, and for others is a prospect of seeing the world from above with the solemn simplicity of nature over the material world.
In 2009 they recorded their first album as a label independent band in EP format, called "Gestalt". It contains six songs, five in English and one in Spanish.
