Official Website of Derek Evan, the original lead singer of The GoldTones The GoldTones were a doo-wop a cappella group from New Jersey that was formed in December 2003, and existed until 2007 when the group disbanded. The GoldTones were best known for their full-length CD, "Street Corner Gold", which was released in 2004. In 2005, the CD was nominated by CASA (Contemporary A Cappella Society of America) in the category of "Doo-Wop Album of The Year". They are also well known for their a cappella version of "I Believe" which was a hit on various doo-wop radio stations throughout the United States. During their 4 years together, the group appeared on several TV and radio programs. They performed at many oldies concerts, restaurants, car shows, private parties, and other events. They frequently performed at shows and concerts which were produced by Ronnie I. and the UGHA (United Group Harmony Association), and performed for 4 consecutive years at "Lead East- The World's Biggest 50's Party" in Parsippany, NJ. The GoldTones performed as the opening act for lengendary doo-wop recordings artists, including Della Griffin and The Enchanters, The Continentals, The Vocaleers, The Dubs, and Nicky Addeo and Night Owls. The original group consisted of 5 members: Derek Evan (lead singer/2nd tenor), Ray "ShooBop" Donelly (2nd tenor/lead singer), Harry Van (1st tenor), Uchin "Gino" Kim (baritone), and Jersey Jeff Wewers (bass singer). The original lineup continued until March 2006, when Derek Evan and Uchin Kim left the group. The group immediately reformed with 2 new members, and continued to perform until late 2007 when the group disbanded. As of April 2009, Harry Van is continuing to record and perform with an acappella group called "Echoes of Time". Ray Donnelly has retired from performing due to medical reasons. Uchin Kim is currently learning to play piano, but is no longer involved in the entertainment business. Derek Evan, former lead singer of The GoldTones, continues to perform as a solo singer and DJ. He started an entertainment business known as Derek Evan Entertainment LLC and continues to releases solo recordings from time to time.
