The Foster Care Council of Canada

The Foster Care Council of Canada is a Canadian non-profit organization comprised primarily of people who have lived in foster care and includes other members of the community who are concerned about the well-being of the country's 70,000 foster children.

It is based in Ontario.

Introduction
The Foster Care Council of Canada is an Ottawa based, non-profit organization establishd in 2001 which is made up of both current and former child-welfare service clients and their supporters who are dedicated to improving the quality and accountability of child-welfare services across the country.

Mission Statement
Involving current and former child-welfare service clients in the process of improving the quality and accountability of child-welfare services through a strong, united voice.

Objectives
The Council aims to achieve its mission by:

* conducting child-welfare related research and reporting our findings to government officials and the public
* providing information about child-welfare related legislation and on-line legal tools
* launching public awareness campaigns regarding important child-welfare issues
* assisting child-welfare clients in acquiring access to their own personal records held by the various child-welfare agencies
* publishing our periodic newsletter, The Crown Ward
* endorsing, intervening in, or initiating legal action where it is deemed necessary and appropriate to do so in the public interest

Recent Legal Actions
* Charges have been laid by the Executive Director of the Foster Care Council of Canada as a private citizen against the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa and its Executive Director for violating section 307 (5) of the Corporations Act, RSO 1990, c.
