The Farside is a Christian youth organisation based in Poole, Dorset, UK. It has put on bi-monthy youth events since 1996. History The Farside started in 1996 when several church youth workers decided to put on a joint event at Poole Arts Centre. This was followed by further events held in various church halls. Since then The Farside has participated in further ecumenical church youth events, various community youth work projects, and detached youth work. Since 2002 the work of the The Farside has been assisted by four youth workers from Poole deanery. In 2006 The Farside became a registered charity, overseen by a management committee. The Farside is co-ordinated by Simon Harwood of Poole Youth Projects. Bi-Monthly Events At first the events attracted around 100 people. Numbers steadily grew, peaking at 400, but have declined since; in recent years events have consistently attracted around 180 people, from approximately 35 churches. The events are planned jointly by youth workers and young people. Events generally include a band playing contemporary worship songs, a performed dance routine, a multimedia presentation, a drama sketch, a sermon, and a time of prayer. Young people are encouraged to participatein/lead all of these things. Well-known speakers at previous events have included Roy Crowne from Youth for Christ/Hope 08, Zoe Hayes from Tearfund and speakers from 24-7 Prayer. Deanery Workers The Farside is assisted by four trainee youth workers who are based in different churches in Poole deanery. Each trainee youth worker does the following: * They work for a church as a youth worker. * They work in The Farside's community youth projects, such as detached work, and style open youth clubs. * They study for a FdA in Youth Work at Southampton University (which is JNC affiliated). * They help to organise and run the bi-monthly events. Each youth worker is supervised primarily by their church. Simon Harwood oversees their training and their invovlement in The Farside's projects. Funding The Farside is a registered charity: No. 1113627. Its income comes from from voluntary entrance money and donations.
