The Colbert Effect

The Colbert Effect refers to the ability of cable television personality and comedian Stephen Colbert to communicate with and mobilize to action teenagers and young adults in their twenties.
Examples
* The Megyeri Bridge naming poll.
* The "Wriststrong" Campaign
* The Elephant Hoax
* The poll showings among voters age 18-29 after Colbert's October 2007 announcement of his Presidential Campaign.
* The Colbert Bump

Presidential Campaign
Having declared himself as a candidate for US president, a Rasmussen Poll was published, in which Colbert received 13 per cent of the vote as a third party candidate against the Democrat Hillary Clinton and the Republican Rudy Giuliani. In the same poll, Colbert defeated Giuliani and Fred Thompson among 18 to 29 year olds.

The Colbert Bump
Another notable effect of The Report is the Colbert Bump whereby politicians appearing on his show poll much higher after the show, or authors promoting books gain sales. This was especially true of Ron Paul.
