The Coal Men

The Coal Men are an Americana/Rock band from Nashville, Tennessee.

Biography
The Coal Men were formed in 1999 in Nashville, TN by childhood friends Dave Coleman and Jason "Hitch" Hitchcock, along with three of Coleman's acquaintances: Justin Schipper, Kevin Aerosmith (both from Belmont University, and Dave Ray who attended MTSU. Over the next few years, Schipper and Aerosmith would leave the band to pursue other musical interests.

Dave Coleman is the band's principle songwriter, having began a career as a songwriter at the age of 20 with Acuff-Rose Music in Nashville, TN. Many of the songs are penned with friends outside of the band, such as Carter Little (Saddlesong), Robert Reynolds (The Mavericks), Mark Winchester (Brian Setzer Orchestra, Emmylou Harris) and Milan Miller (The Wrights, Jubal Foster).

The band plays primarily as a three-piece. However, Chris Frame (formerly with Son Volt) and Jen Gunderman (formerly with The Jayhawks and Dag) perform on their most recent album - Beauty is a Moment - and occasionally make live appearances with the bands three core members. The Coal Men also often perform together live as back-up musicians for other artists. They are also known for doing week-long residencies at both locations of the Hog's Breath Saloon in Key West and Destin, FL.

As of June 2008, The Coal Men were in the studio recording the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album Beauty Is A Moment.
