The Corey Brooks Band is an American Christian musical group. They are an evangelical Christian group, and "do not apologize for keeping Jesus in the forefront." Members of Corey Brooks Band are residents of West Virginia and Tennessee. Band History 2009 At the initial formation of the group in December 2009 it consisted of Corey Brooks - lead vocals (previously known for his solo career in Christian Country Music in which he garnered a GMA Dove Award Nomination and for every song he released to radio made it to the top 10 on national charts with two songs garnering three #1 spots, two overseas and one in the United States), Craig Smith - guitar/vocals, and Matt Kelly - keys/vocals. The 3 of them hit the road for the first time together in March 2010 taking the message to a global audience. 2010 The Band toured extensively in 2010 and introduced a few new faces during their concerts. For a brief stint in 2010 Josh Kerbawy and Ryan Zentmeyer toured with the band playing drums & bass. The first Corey Brooks Band studio album, Damascus Road, was produced by Nelson McSwain and released by C & L Entertainment in August 2010. The members of the band penned all of songs. Autumn of 2010, the band was up for Vocal Group of the Year for the ICM Awards at Trinity Broadcasting Network. They appeared on the cover of Power Source Music Magazines September addition with a lengthy article titled 'Damascus Road Experience' in which the band talked about the tour, how they have seen God change lives and how their lives have been changed by this experience. The first single attributed to the band to release to radio, Blood On My Hands, peaked at #4 in October. 2011 As of 2011, the band has taken a slight new direction. Corey Brooks has been hired at Lerona Church as the Associate Pastor for Youth & Children and will complete his Associates in Religion from Liberty University in May 2011. On March 15, 2011 Daniel Pennington played drums for the band at a church in West Virginia. After the concert, the band announced on their official Twitter page that he would be their first ever full-time drummer. In late March 2011, Matt Kelly and Craig Smith announced they will be stepping down from the Corey Brooks Band to pursue other areas of ministry. A press release was posted on the bands Facebook on April 1, 2011 with the official announcement about Daniel Pennington and a new name; Caleb Bolen. Caleb will now be on lead guitar full-time for the Corey Brooks Band. (In November, Caleb stepped down from his position due to resent unknown personal events. He was promptly removed from the bands website.) On April 11, 2011 it is announced in a press release on the bands Facebook that the band has another new face. DJ Coburn will now be on rhythm guitar for the Corey Brooks Band. This is the first time the band has had two full-time guitar players and no keyboard player. The newest member was announced in the most recent press release on the bands official Facebook. As of June 8, 2011, Skyler Burgess will now be on the bass and acoustic guitar with the band full-time. This is first time in the band history they have had a total of five full-time members. In August 2011 CBB appeared at Fired Up Youth Conference in Americus, GA with a new face. Alec Tincher, on keys, played his first show with the band. While yet to be officially named a member of the band he has been seen at most shows since his first show in Georgia. September 2011, DJ Coburn stepped down from his position as rhythm guitar player stating that he felt that it wasn't where God wanted him at this point in his life. This change is reflected on the bands Facebook. Skyler Burgess will now be playing rhythm guitar, instead of bass for the band. During this same month the band announced in a press release that they have just brought on a new member. Alec Tincher will now be playing keys for the Corey Brooks Band. The band once again has 5 members after the resignation of DJ Coburn earlier in the month. December 2011 marks the band's two-year anniversary. Though there have been many changes in the bands roster they are "...more satisfied than ever before in the relationships that we all have and in the direction our music and ministry is heading," says Corey. 2012 The year opens to the band hitting the studio for their new album. This new album will be the band's first fully Contemporary Christian album. The band has been slowly progressing into the Contemporary scene since Corey’s solo release ‘Love Me Anyway’ in 2009. The album is slated to be released in late Spring. In a recent press release put out by Corey Brooks Ministries it was announced that T.K. King will now be the band's acoustic guitar player. It is assumed that Skyler Burgess has stepped down. T.K. King is finishing up some prior commitments in Nashville, TN and will begin touring with the band in April. T.K. says, “I am really looking forward to becoming a part of that ministry. I have always felt called to tour in a band and I feel like this is a great opportunity to do that with an already established ministry.” The band released their first single to Christian radio in October. 'I Beg You' was a quick hit with their Inspirational Country and Christian Country fans and quickly started climbing charts around the world. By December it was a top 75 song worldwide. With the success of the single the group began work on their first music video. The 'I Beg You' music video was produced by The Kelly's Productions in Dayton, Tennessee and released on December, 23. 2013 On January 11 the band published a press release announcing that Daniel Pennington, was no longer with the band, stating he "stepped down to focus on his local ministry." Zane England will now be taking over as the drummer/percussionist for Corey Brooks Band. The press release adds that Zane and Corey are cousins and that Zane is also a Christian rapper. The band announced that they will be going back to full-time music ministry this year and that Corey Brooks Ministries has founded an outreach ministry in Southern West Virginia with a focus on youth ministry called, The Awakening. The Awakening is slated to begin in February of this year. CBB released their first single, I Beg You, to radio from the Take Over The World album. The single quickly rose to the #1 spot on the Christian Country International chart and peaked at #7 in the US. The band also released their first music video with the song. CBB announced in a press release on November 6th that two of the groups members, Corey Brooks and T.K. King, are now the owners of their own record label. Verb Records is a Christian label and a division of Merit Music Group, LLC. On November 9th, Corey Brooks Band, was present at the 2013 Artist Music Guild Heritage Awards in Fort Mill, SC. They were nominated in four categories including, Album of the Year (Take Over the World), Song of the Year (I Beg You), Video of the Year (I Beg You), and Vocal Group of the Year, in which they took home the award for Album of the Year . Charity work Soles4Souls During 2010 the band became public supporters for the international shoe charity Soles4Souls. To show their support of Soles4Souls, the guys went barefoot as they walked the carpet and presented an ICM award to raise awareness for the over 300 million children in the world that do not have shoes. The show aired on Daystar Television Network at a later date. They performed barefoot at 'The Attic' for Barefoot Wednesday and collected hundreds of shoes for Soles4Souls. They also accept donations for Soles4Souls at their live shows. In October 2010, the Corey Brooks Band walked the pink carpet for the ICM Award Show in Nashville, Tennessee, in October 2011. They will be showing their support of breast cancer survivors and victims while helping bring awareness to the cause. Kids Alive International In November 2011 it was announced that the band has partnered with Kids Alive International and is now an Artist Ambassador for the child sponsorship charity. They will now be presenting KidsAlive Charity sponsorship opportunities at their concerts. It was also announced that the band and its families are now sponsoring two children in Haiti.
