The Celebration of Liebowitz Day

The Celebration of Liebowitz Day is an annual celebration at Middlebury College in honor of its president (Ronald D. Liebowitz, 2004-present). The occasion has been a staple activity for the college's student body since its inception.
2008
The inaugural event occurred on March 14, 2008 in the college's social space. According to event organizers, the occasion was presented as "The 12th Annual Liebowitz Day 2: Electric Boogaloo: Celebrating a century of tradition."
2009
The second annual Liebowitz Day was billed as "Budgetary Change We Can Believe In: Protecting Truth, Justice, and the Middlebury Way." The event occurred on April 3, 2009 and was sponsored by Red Bull. It lasted a fully scheduled 26 hours, beginning with a count-down to midnight at a tavern in town. The day included a pancake breakfast, lunch and handshaking contest, a pie baking contest, a jams and preserves tasting, the 5k "fun run" loafer race, Red Bull paper planes, drink specials at the on campus pub featuring live music by Fat Baby and She's Intricate, the Ron Liebowitz Inaugural Ball featuring live music by The Sunday Night Kings and The Gremlin's Kremlin, and culminating in Liebstock with music by 10 Beers from Cute and Bearplane.
Controversy
President Ron Liebowitz expressed dismay in not having ever been invited to the events, himself. While conceding he was unavailable for the 2008 and 2009 celebrations, he did suggest availability for the 2010 event.
