At school, he is constantly bullied by the local jock David and his friends. One night, after receiving a brutal beating, Lucas goes home to recover and misses his chance at being adopted by a family. The next day, Lucas awakes to discover his whole body changed. Heading to school, Lucas has another run in with David and his friends, but fights the boys and manages to defeat them easily. After such a brutal fight, Lucas is expelled from school and returns home to discover his best friends Tom and Lucy awaiting him.
Tom and Lucy soon reveal the truth to Lucas: Lucas is not from Earth, but the magical world of Bomcard. Tom and Lucy are revealed to be elves, sent to Earth to protect an watch over Lucas from birth. The pair then reveal that Lucas himself is half-elf and half-human, the first hybrid in the history of Bomcard. His mother Martha, Princess of the Elves, is revealed to still be alive and his father Phillip was the rightful heir to the throne of Bomcard until his death protecting his family. Lucas in shock, also learns that an evil wizard named Lord Barback has taken over Bomcard and plans to destroy all magical life in Bomcard.
His friends then tell Lucas about the prophecy of The Lost Son, the one destined to return to Bomcard and rid the world of all its evil. Objecting his new legacy and destiny, Lucas refuses to return to Bomcard. Waiting to be normal and not wanting the pressure of being a king, Lucas is convinced to return after Lucy reveals his dreams may in fact become reality if he does not act. Lucas uses his amulet that Linda had kept for him all his life to teleport home to Bomcard, but leaves his friends and Linda behind.
Upon arrival, Lucas meets a mysterious girl named Elizabeth who helps him defeat a group of harpies. Elizabeth soon reveals she is running away from her father and decides to go with Lucas to the town of Stelipse, much to Lucas's disappointment. Along the way, the pair are attacked by Lord Barback's guards, led by his lieutenant Rafael. Before they can be captured, Lucas and Elizabeth are saved by three centaurs - FieryTemper, QuickRun and FastShot. The centaurs take the pair to their home where they meet ElderOne, leader of the centaurs and Leah, one of the female centaurs. The centaurs are then forced to flee when the guards storm the forest, but not before ElderOne sends Elizabeth and Lucas on their journey.
Meanwhile at Lord Barback's palace, the evil wizard commands his dragon Dominance to find Lucas and Elizabeth and kill the pair. At the same time, a young palace guard named Zach decides to flee the castle and find Lucas after whispers of The Lost Son's return reaches him. Zach is discovered by Marrett and Neomi, two fairies who work with Leah the centaur. The fairies teleport Zach to a small forest where he meets Leah and discovers a secret long lost: there is another dragon. Zach is revealed to be a Dragon Master, naming his new companion Honour.
Lucas and Elizabeth continue to their journey to Stelipse but after his telepathic abilites begin to manifest, the pair are nearly attacked by a Spirit, a deceased ghost inhabiting the body of a traveller passing by. While Lucas passes out from the stain, the pair are saved by a giant named Charles, who takes the pair back to the Land of the Giants. Once Lucas awakens, Charles decides to teach the young king to control his powers. Over the next few days, Lucas masters his telepathy, telekinesis and fire manipulation powers. The pair are then sent on their way to meet Zach in Steplise, who at the same time has been training with Leah and FieryTemper.
While on the way to Steplise, Lucas and Elizabeth meet Branchy, a young Living Tree who fast becomes friends with the pair. After revealing the location of Stelipse, the pair leave but promise to return for their new friend. Entering Stelpise, Lucas notices a small book stand which attracts his attention. Finding a mysterious book at the stand, Lucas discovers the book belongs to his mother, the Princess of the Elves. Elizabeth convinces Lucas to use his telepathy to trade for the book. Entering various nearby taverns, Lucas discovers no one knows who Zach is. As they leave the last tavern, the pair are attacked by Rafael and his guards before the arrival of Zach and Honour. In the following battle, Rafael summons the Spirits to assist and after possessing the entire town, the Spirits turn to Lucas. When Lucas reveals his amulet and identity, the Spirits turn on the guards, forcing them to flee. Lucas and his friends leave the town as the Spirits leave the bodies.
On the way to the elves, Lucas realises they left Branchy behind and decides to return after they see smoke coming from the now destroyed town of Stelpise. Honour reveals that only a dragon's fire could cause this much damage and the group realise that Dominance had been the cause. The group discover a tortured Branchy who is taken with them to the elves. Upon arrival, the elves attend to Branchy while Lucas finally meets Martha, his mother.
Soon, the group are visited by Celeste, the leader of the Spirits who reveal that Lord Barback has arrived to kill Lucas. The group head out and prepare to fight. As the goblins and dwarves side with Lord Barback, the elves side with Lucas, Elizabeth, Zach and Celeste. In the epic battle, Honour is wounded and nearly killed before the intervention of Zach and Celeste. As the Spirits fight with recently deceased guards to prevent possessions, the elves struggle to hold off the goblins and dwarves.
Lucas faces off against Lord Barback, who reveals he is possessing the dead body of his father Phillip. During his fight, Lucas undergoes a mysterious transformation: his natural dirty blonde hair turns honey brown and his blue eyes turn emerald green. The new, darker Lucas taunts Lord Barback and easily overpowers him but in a moment of distraction, Lord Barback takes control of the battle. Stealing the amulet, Lord Barback and his army flees as Dominance creates a large wall of fire. As Lucas struggles to control the blaze, the group retreat into the elves home as Celeste helps Lucas. The group soon discovers Elizabeth is missing and begin to slowly regroup.
After meeting with his friends, Lucas decides to rescue Elizabeth with Zach and Honour as he sends out his friends on various missions to help their fight. With the amulet and Elizabeth missing, the group can only wait for a miracle to help them survive the oncoming war.
Themes
The trilogy itself focus on a range of various issues seen in everyday life. Themes of racisim, tolerance, acceptance and fate play a huge role in Lucas's life and that of those he encounters.
