The Barrier between Men and Feminism

Research suggests that barriers of entry to feminism differ between intersections of identity. Poll data in the United States shows that while individuals may identify with feminist ideals, feminist labels are still contentious. Social Norms Men feel pressure to live up to the masculine social norm of a man and feel that by becoming a feminist they will be viewed as less of a man. Participation Could Lead to Lower Social Status By identifying as a feminist, a man is willingly aligning himself with a “lower” status group, it could potentially subject him to hatred and harassment. The Uncommon Approach Men may feel as though they cannot take part in the movement because it is uncommon choice for men. See Also
