On November 7th, 2008, an associate from Haasan's production office had confirmed that Marmayogi was indeed shelved. However, Haasan had decided to usurp the call sheets of Marmayogi and script for another venture titled, Thalaivan Irukiran. A 60 crore project was finalized with Gemini Films Circuit, who had earlier done Haasan's Vasool Raja MBBS.
