Textative (tek-sta-tive) an adjective used to describe a person who obsesses over the use of their cell phone to send and receive text messages. Lauren was a very textative person because she sent and recived 3000 texts per month. Textative People A textative person is someone who sends/receives at least 2000 texts per month, constantly has to check for new texts, and has an obsessive issue with replying to every text. Most textative people are teens, because an average teen sends and receives about 1742 text messages a month. Of course some adults are textative people too, but teens are the most textative. Teens text during school, in the car, while they are supposed to be sleeping, and pretty much whenever they can get their hands on their phone. Benefits of Being Textative Being a textative person usually means that (a) you have a lot of friends, or (b) you have a friend that is a textative person. This is usually means that you will constantly be in touch with this person(s) because you are constantly texting. You would talk to this person(s) almost all of the time to talk about various subjects like tonight's math homework or what you are wearing to the party. Although many adults don't see why texting is a big deal and say the dreaded phrase "Why don't you just call them?", texting is the new calling, and teens send almost eight texts for every phone call. So being a textative person is not always a bad thing. Consequences of Being Textative Being a textative person can be good in some aspects, but textative teens can get in a lot of trouble for their actions. Most schools do not allow texting in class and most teachers will confiscate the phone. According to the Union County Public Schools Student Handbook, on the first offense, the phone will be confiscated and a parent will be contacted. On the second offense, the phone will be confiscated, a parent will be contacted and required to come in for a conference, and may include a day of in school suspension, detention, or Saturday school. On the third offense, the phone will be confiscated, a parent will be contacted and required to come in for a conference, may include a day of in school suspension, detention, or Saturday school, and the principle will refer the incident to a counselor. Being a textative person can also lead to lower grades in school because you pay more attention to your phone than the teacher. Also, textative people can have trouble at home because they run up the phone bill. If you have an AT&T Messaging 1500 plan, you have 1500 text messages to send and receive per month. Each additional message is 5 cents per message. So if you have that plan and send 2000 texts, then you would end up paying the $15 for the plan and then an additional $25 to bring the total to $40. Parents may not be willing to pay for the additional fees and then require the teen to pay the extra $25. In addition to paying for the texts, the teen may also be grounded from their phone, extracurricular activities (sports, teams, things outside of school), or even the computer/gaming system. This makes for an unhappy teen, which is not a good thing to have on your hands. So this proves that being a textative person may get you in a lot of trouble in school and at home. How Do I Know if I Am a Textative Person? Do you think you may be at risk for being a textative person? To find out take this quiz: 1. Do you text more than 2000 text messages per month? 2. Do you constantly have to check your phone for new texts? 3. Do you feel an urge to reply to most of your text messages even if they are one word replys like 'lol' or 'omg'? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then you would be classified as a textative person. Getting Help Textative people can seek help if they feel that their textative personality is getting in the way of their lifestyle. Now being a textative person is not always a bad thing, but if you send and receive over 10,000 texts a month, then you may have more than a textative personality: you may have what psychiatrists are now calling 'Obsessive Texting Disorder'. There are a few tricks that you can try to stop your textative personality from taking over:(1) Stay away from your phone from one day (this does not mean to take someone else's and text on their's. Stay away from phones in general). Or, you could try (2) bumping your unlimited texting plan down to a 1000 texts a month plan, and then, even down to something lower like 500 texts or even 200 texts. If none of these strategies work, then you have a an extremely textative personality that you just can't change! Bda2nc (talk) 03:03, 1 March 2009 (UTC) <references/>
