Terrain Experts, Inc. (TERREX) is now Presagis.
TERREX was a developer of software tools for 3-D terrain database generation and visualization. The Terra Vista terrain generation product line is used extensively for real-time 3-D image generation, battlefield visualization, mission rehearsal and planning, gaming, and many other applications.
Terra Vista is commonly used to build Synthetic Environment Databases.
Terra Vista works by converting various formats of source data into a terrain database which is then rendered by an Image Generator. Terra Vista is also capable of creating databases used by semi-automated forces (SAF) tools. The formats used for generation of these databases usually includes at a minimum a digital elevation model (DEM). Other types of data typically include vector data (to represent roads, hydrography, etc.) and digital imagery.
Company History & Acquisition
Terrain Experts Inc. was founded by Sam Abuzalaf in April 1997 with an initial contract from Electronic Arts Electronic Arts, Inc.. Norman Miller and Richard Clark soon joined Sam Abuzalaf to help launch Terrex's Commercial-Off-The-Shelf Tools for the US Department of Defense market segment.
Terrain Experts Inc. was on a fast track to success and was quickly recognized for its innovation. In 1999 at the Workstation Leadership Forum, organized by the Intel Corporation . and CEO Paul S. Otellini hosted Sam Abuzalaf as distinguished guest speaker to demonstrate advanced uses of its Terrain tools. .
On May 24, 2005 CAE (NYSE: CGT; TSX: CAE) announced that it had purchased Terrain Experts Inc.
In August 2007 Terrain Experts Inc. was amalgamated by CAE with other commercial-off-the-shelf software companies to form the company Presagis. Presagis remains a wholly owned subsidiary by CAE.
