Teesside Athletic Football Club is a local football club from Redcar, Cleveland. The club's first team currently plays in the Wearside League, the reserves in the Teesside Football League and the youth team in the Teesside U18 League. The club was one of the first in the country to receive the F.A. Charter Standard Community Club Status, and is one of the most respected clubs in the North East of England. As well as the three senior teams, Teesside Athletic provides for over 250 children of both sexes, including a programme developed for infants as young as 3.
The club received a large grant from the Football Foundation in 2003, worth around £730,000. The money was used to develop the clubs amenities, including a new changing facility, club house and pitch improvement/development. The fee was also used in hiring a Football Development Office, Mr. Kevin Fryett, to enable it to greatly expand its work with local schools and the community.
"When we received the grant, the whole club was buzzing, it was a dream come true. Now it's built and in use, we are still numb with excitement. It really is a first class, tremendous facility, one that we are all truly proud of. We have seen a large increase in the number of junior members and we can now become much more active in the community." Kevin Fryett, Football Development Officer and Club Secretary.
The facility was officially opened by Gareth Southgate ,the present day Middlesbrough Football Club manager, October 2004.
"As an Ambassador for the Foundation I know what great work they have already done in the area and alongside Boro’s excellent Football in the Community scheme, a new generation of players in Teesside are getting the best possible start in the game. This latest project is set to lead the development of football in and around Redcar and on behalf of everyone at the club I offer our congratulations to Teesside Athletic FC." Gareth Southgate, Middlesbrough FC Manager, Ambassador of the Football Foundation.
