Team LayCool is a villainous professional wrestling tag team consisting of WWE Divas Michelle McCool and Layla. Their characters are portrayed as arrogant narcissists who believe they are superior than the other WWE Divas because of their looks. As a team and individuality, they have had high profiled feuds with Melina, Eve Torres, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Tiffany, and Kelly Kelly. Debut 2009-2010 On April 13, 2009 during the 2009 WWE Draft, Layla was drafted to SmackDown from Raw. After the draft, Layla began feuding with Eve Torres, while Michelle McCool, who began teaming with the also recently drafted Alicia Fox, was in a feud with Melina over the WWE Women's Championship, which she won at The Bash. The duo initially began teaming together after Fox was traded to Raw. The two continued to feud with both Melina and Torres until they were traded to Raw in exchange for Mickie James and Beth Phoenix. The duo quickly went after James and talked about her weight, giving her the nickname "Piggie James." James became the number one contender defeating Phoenix and Natalya in a triple threat match on SmackDown to earn a match for the Women's Championship at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs in which McCool retained with help from Layla. However McCool would drop the title to James at the Royal Rumble before regaining it a couple weeks later on SmackDown with the help of the Special Guest Referee Vickie Guerrero who slapped James at the end of the match, costing her the title. 2010-present Upon regaining the championship, Guerrero, who began accompanying Lay-Cool to the ring, and Lay-Cool entered into a feud with Beth Phoenix after Guerrero told Phoenix she would never receive a Women's Championship opportunity. The feud led to a 10 Diva Tag Team Match at WrestleMania XXVI, where the Team of Guerrero, Lay-Cool, Maryse, and Fox defeated the team of Phoenix, James, Kelly Kelly, Torres, and Gail Kim. However, Phoenix's team won a rematch the next night on Raw. The feud went on into April, where Phoenix defeated McCool for the title at Extreme Rules in an Extreme Makeover Match. Phoenix would tear her ACL only two weeks later. Because of this, Guerrero announced that Lay-Cool would face Phoenix in a 2 on 1 Handicap Match. Layla pinned Phoenix to become the first WWE Diva Search winner and British-born Diva to win the title. Even though Layla earned the pinfall, Team Lay-Cool states that they are "Co-Women's Champions," though WWE only recognizes one champion, being Layla, in the title history. Upon the completion of the 2010 WWE Draft, Kelly Kelly and Rosa Mendes were drafted to SmackDown. The team quickly proceeded to antagonize Kelly until Tiffany joined in to help Kelly forming an alliance against Lay-Cool. While feuding with Kelly and Tiffany, they would also make fun of Mendes after she wanted to join the team. Lay-Cool would deny her from joining, telling Mendes she needed an image change that she need a lot more training. Mendes would later appear exercising in backstage segments. Mendes would try to impress Layla during a match with Kelly Kelly in which she distracted Layla allowing Kelly to win. At Money in the Bank, Layla defeated Kelly to retain the Women's Championship. In July 2010, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long made Lay-Cool give up one of their titles proclaiming that there should only be one Women's Champion. McCool would give up her belt; however Lay-Cool would break Layla's belt into two pieces in an argument backstage seeming that one belt in half would be for both members.
