Team Lay-Cool

Team Lay-Cool is a women's tag team in professional wrestling, specifically World Wrestling Entertainment on its SmackDown brand, consisting of the heel gimmicks of Michelle McCool and Layla. While the pair were initially a generic heel tandem they soon developed into valley girl type gimmicks and Mean Girls parodies, similar to The Beautiful People in TNA. The pair have had high profile feuds with Mickie James and Melina.
History
Formation - Various Feuds
Layla was drafted to the SmackDown brand as part of the 2009 Supplemental Draft and would be featured infrequently in tag team matches with the heel divas of SmackDown which included McCool and newly drafted Alicia Fox. Layla world enter into a feud with Eve Torres as Torres defeated her in a dance contest and an arm wrestling match before defeating her in an actual wrestling match. On the May 23 edition of SmackDown, McCool defeated Gail Kim to become the number one contender for the WWE Women's Championship. She would then enter into a feud with then-champion Melina, where she would defeat her for the title at The Bash with some assitance from Fox to become the first diva to hold both the WWE Divas Championship and the WWE Women's Championship. Fox was then traded to Raw later on which then allowed Layla and McCool to team together more often. In August of 2009, they officially formed an alliance with Layla representing McCool in matches while McCool had a legit knee injury. The pair would then frequently face Melina and Eve Torres in tag team matches for the next few months before entering in a feud with Maria, who was involved in an on-screen relationship with Dolph Ziggler. McCool and Layla continued meddling in the relationship and attempted to pit Melina and Maria against each other, but the feud was abruptly dropped when Melina was traded to Raw in October.
==="Piggie James"===
As part of the divas trade that moved Melina, as well as Eve Torres to Raw, Mickie James and Beth Phoenix were moved to SmackDown where instantly McCool and Layla sparked a feud with James that involved the two poking fun at her weight and calling her "Piggie James". The duo were given their name "Team LayCool" as an amalgamation of Layla's first name and McCool's surname by commentator Matt Striker and began wearing T-shirts with the name "Piggie James" on them to mock James. The team was part of a five-on-five match at the Survivor Series that pitted McCool's team of Layla, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, and Jillian against James's team of Melina, Eve Torres, Gail Kim and Kelly Kelly, where James' team was victorious. McCool defeated James at TLC to retain the Women's title with help from Layla, which intensified the feud.
Beth Phoenix then became involved in the feud when McCool and Layla attacked James during a match with Phoenix, who attacked all three women in retaliation, leading to Layla facing Phoenix in a squash match the following week. After the match, McCool attacked Phoenix where James made the save fighting off McCool only to spin-kick Phoenix in the head afterwards. Two weeks before the Royal Rumble, Team LayCool threw a "going away" party for James, Maria defended James, however James came down and told Lay-Cool she wasn't going anywhere. A catfight ensued between the four where Phoenix ran down and semmingly didn't know who to attack. She then threw Maria into the ring post and teamed with LayCool attacking James. McCool would then smash a pig cake into James' face with punch being poured over her as well leaving James in tears. The next week, Layla came out in a fat suit and pig mask pretending to be James, which she also did at the Royal Rumble before McCool's title defense against James. James defeated McCool in less than 20 seconds to win the title, and after the match Maria, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, and the Bella Twins came down and smashed cake in McCool and Layla's faces.
Simply Flawless, Vickie Guerrero - feud with Beth Phoenix
The feud with James continued after the Rumble, when Vickie Guerrero became involved after James accidentally covered her with cottage cheese. Team LayCool began wearing jackets with the phrase "Simply Flawless" emblazoned on them as well as saying it in unison. McCool defeated James to win back the Women's title on the February 26th edition of SmackDown, with Guerrero acting as the referee. Guerrero slapped James, which allowed McCool to pin her. On the March 5 edition of SmackDown, Beth Phoenix approached Guerrero backstage and asked her when she would receive a championship match against McCool since she is the most dominant diva on SmackDown. Guerrero then told Phoenix she would not receive a title shot and that she was the most dominant diva on SmackDown. The following week, Guerrero then made a match pitting former ECW general manager now turned wrestler Tiffany against McCool. Tiffany would defeat McCool by disqualification when Guerrero attacked Tiffany on the outside of the ring. McCool then began attacking Tiffany before Phoenix made the save and attacked McCool and Layla before clotheslining Guerrero. The following SmackDown Phoenix and Tiffany defeated LayCool in a tag match where Phoenix performed her finisher GlamSlam on McCool. After the match Guerrero announced that next week Phoenix would be facing her in a singles match. On the March 15 edition of Raw, Team LayCool attacked Raw divas Gail Kim and Eve Torres who were saving Kelly Kelly from an attack by then-Divas Champion Maryse following their match. On the March 22 edition of Raw, Team LayCool and Maryse then defeated Phoenix, Torres, and Kim where Kelly Kelly and Mickie James were supporting the Phoenix, Torres, and Kim on the outside while Guerrero and Alicia Fox were supporting LayCool and Maryse. On March 26th, 2010, on a edition of Friday Night Smackdown, Vickie Guerrero was supposed to face Beth Phoenix in a regular singles match, but changed it to a 5-on-1 Handicap match where Beth Phoenix faced of against Guerrero, LayCool, Maryse, and Fox. The team won the match. After the match, Vickie attempted to perform her late husband Eddie Guerrero's Frog Splash on Phoenix but Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres and Gail Kim made the save and chased McCool, Layla, Maryse, and Fox from the ring. Vickie, now alone with Phoenix in the ring, tried to escape, but Beth pulled her by her pants and accidentally ripped them off, revealing her pink underwear which read "Excuse Me" in rhinestones. A humiliated Guerrero ran backstage while Phoenix waved Guerrero's pants in the air, much to the delight of the fans. It was then announced that there would then be a 10-Diva Tag Team match on Wrestlemania XXVI featuring Michelle McCool, Layla, Vickie Guerrero, Maryse, and Alicia Fox against, Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, and Gail Kim. At WrestleMania XXVI, Team LayCool, Guerrero, Maryse and Alicia Fox defeated Phoenix and her team. However, they lost the night after WrestleMania on Raw in a WrestleMania rematch. On the April 8th WWE Superstars, Layla lost to Beth Phoenix in the "Intergender" match set up by Guerrero. After the match, McCool slid in the ring and attacked Beth with Vickie holding her legs, however Beth retaliated and sent the trio running up the ramp. On April 16th, Michelle McCool defeated Mickie James in a non-title match with the assistance from Layla. After the match, McCool continued to assault James, however, they soon retreated through the crowd when Phoenix made the save. The next week on SmackDown saw team LayCool defeated Phoenix and Mickie James in a tag team match. Not only did Simply Flawless beat them up, but they also humiliated Phoenix after the match by sending her through the ironing board and smearing all over her face with a lipstick.
