Teachr

Teachr is the nom de plume of artist Keith Biele. Keith made himself well known as a traditional painter, traveling and painting in government buildings as a way to bring the arts of politics together. He then transitioned into becoming a street artist in 2011 after his wife had twins as a way to protest budget cuts. His emergence coincided with major pushes against teacher by union-busting bills in Ohio and Wisconsin, and cuts in public education to offset the economic recession.
Early career
Keith began art in college at Ringling School or Art & Design in Florida where he graduated in 1991. After graduation he made his living as a commission painter up until 2004 when he was the first painter allowed to do a live paint exhibit in the Pentagon. In 2006 he was the first person to paint inside the US State Dept. building in Los Angeles. In 2007 he organized an art exchange between students in Zimbabwe and Florida, living in Zimbabwe for a year. He premiered his first international art exhibit "Make Art Matter - Love & Desire" in 2008 in Los Angeles.
Street Art
Teachr began doing street art around 2010 as a way to protest the budget cuts that were hitting school nationwide. He and his wife had just had twins and he wanted to promote education somehow so he began painting the streets. He quickly found himself among the most well known artists in Los Angeles and soon the country due to his message of Peace and Education. Thus earning himself the moniker of the "Teachr."
After seeing his initial response and outpouring of support he realized that "If you want to reach more people, you've got to put it in the street." He then helped pass a law in Los Angeles making it legal to paint on the electrical boxes that crowd the cities corners giving artists a place to put their message without worry of the legal consequences usually associated with graffiti.
He is well known for his Red Cross type logo with states "Teach Peace" and has repeatedly said that we must "teach each child." He is Currently one of the most prolific artists in Los Angeles where he resides. Teachr's artwork is used on the cover of the 2016 book, Where Else But The Streets. A book about the political street art movement in Los Angeles between 2010-2013, including other artists Banksy, Shephard Fairey and Mr. Brainwash.
In June 2016 Teachr had his first large scale solo show, which he held at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, CA. He donated proceeds from every sale to the Los Angeles Unified School District. He is the first artist to do something like this at a school and hopes that it will become more commonplace. He also made a massive Monopoly board for the 2012 film Pay2Play which he laid out in front of the school as well to protest money in politics.
