TAGteach

TAGteach is a teaching technology that uses positive reinforcement. In TAGteach a marker signal (like a clicker) is utilized to provide the learnier with precise, unambigous positive feedback. The training situation is set up so that the learner gets to focus on one detail at a time and be successful at every step. TAGteach is derived from clicker training, but since there are some features (like the use of verbal instructions) that differ between animal training and human training, a slightly different terminology is used - for example: TAGteach, tagger (the marker device, for example clicker), and TAG point (the criteria, formulated in a short and positive phrase). The methodology of TAGteach includes: Cooperation between student and teacher Solely positive reinforcement is used throughout the learning session Split the behavior into small components Focus on one detail at a time (binary, yes/no) Express the TAGpoint (the detail to perform) in few words Use a marker (like a click) to give positive feedback Additional reinforcement can be added. If the criterion is not met, either the student can try again, or the criterion can be altered. No negative feedback is given in the learning session. See Also
