				T. Kilgore Splake (born Thomas Hugh Smith, December 8, 1937) is an American poet, photographer and editor. Splake attained his B.A. and M.A. collegiate degrees from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.  He later taught Political Science at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan.   Splake began writing after accepting early retirement from his professorship. He has since written and published over 65 books of poetry and prose.  He has composed four books of photography and over a dozen audio/video tapes, CDs, and DVDs. Over 3,000 of his poems and photographs have appeared since 1980. Splake was the founding editor of the publication CLIFFS Soundings, a quarterly publication featuring both prose and artwork. Splake's work has earned him a dozen Pushcart Prize nominations and drawn international attention to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, his home base for over twenty years.  Up in the Cliffs, at the top of the Copper Keewenaw peninsula, Splake maintains a Poet's Tree monument topped by a Tibetan Prayer Flag that draws international interest from visiting poet and artist hikers. His creative work is archived at the University of New York/Buffalo, Ohio State University, Northern Michigan University, and Michigan Technological University. His books Sadness of Backwater Women and Last Train Out are part of the curriculum in poetry classes at Gogebic College in Ironwood, Michigan.
