Synthpop revival is a name given to artists who have revived synthpop in the mid to late 1990's and the 2000's and 2010's. Artists who have embraced the synthpop revival include No Doubt and La Roux among others. Synthpop revival has also spawned some sub-genres such as Industrial alternative (A genre combining alternative rock music with industrial music made famous by Nine inch nails) and Alternative electronic (A genre in which alternative rock bands display an electronic music sound) History The synthpop revival has its roots in synthpop of the 1980's as many of the bands in the synthpop revival used characteristics that were used by bands such as Duran Duran, Human League and Kraftwerk among others. Synthpop revival didn't emerge as an identifiable tag until the 1990's when bands such as No doubt began incorporating synthpop influences into their music. A lot of the bands in the synthpop revival are influenced by indie rock or indie pop and sometimes by new wave, post punk and post punk revival groups. The synthpop revival lives on today. 1990's Bands such as No Doubt began to show a synthpop sound in their recordings just as many of the 1980's new wave/synthpop groups either began to break up or started to move towards an alternative rock sound (E.G. Duran Duran and A-ha) altogether (Although some returned to synthpop) Many synthpop revival bands formed in the 1990's and include Nine inch nails among others. 2000's The synthpop revival continued into the 2000's with artists/bands such as La Roux, Metro station and Panic at the disco among others reviving the genre to a more commercial degree than what was done in the 1990's. It was the help of these bands that got the synthpop revival out into the mainstream and even in some cases introduced the younger generation to the original synthpop sound of the eighties. Phoenix was also a pioneering band in the synthpop revival pairing it with new wave in some instances. 2010'a The synthpop revival continued into the 2010's with a slew of new artists using a synthpop sound in their records. Artists/bands include Bastille Panic at the disco and twenty one pilots along with many other bands. Many artists such as Taylor swift, Ariana Grande and Charlie XCX have also revived it. Many alternative rock and indie rock/pop groups (As listed above) have also revived this as well incorporating it to their style (Either forming as a new synthpop revival group altogether or in the case of Panic at the disco, changing their style) Artists Artists in this tag include, Lady Gaga Nine inch nails No Doubt Metro Station Capital Cities Bastille twenty one pilots Panic at the disco Charlie XCX La Roux plus many more that you may add.
