Sylvester Lees

Sylvester Lees (1813-1865) was born 1813 in Oldham, Lancashire and died March 22, 1865, presumably in Bury, Lancashire.
In 1844 he was appointed the first locomotive superintendent of the Dublin & Drogheda Railway, and in September 1848 took up a like appointment, on the East Lancashire Railway, based in Bury; he remained in post following the amalgamation of the ELR and L&YR.
The short period of office on the D&DR produced only three locomotives, but rather more were introduced for use on the ELR.
Lees married the former Elizabeth Sutcliffe but there does not appear to have been any surviving issue.
