Syed Zahur Ahmad

Syed Zahur Ahmed was a well known lawyer of Lucknow and was one of the founding members of the All-India Muslim League.
He spent his childhood in village Mendara in Allahabad. Later he moved to Allahabad and Studied in Muir Central College, he
passed his B.A. in 1893 and later LLB from Muir Central College Allahabad in 1896.
He established his practice in Lucknow,Mirza Samiullah Beg was his close friend and they worked together on many cases. T In early twentieth centurey, Syed Zahur Ahmad, became involved in politics.
He first took very active and leading role in Nagri Agitation in 1900 and later became involved with All India Muslim League.
He was one of the founding members of All India Muslim League. He served as Joint secretary of All India Muslim League from
1919 to 1926 and as a very effective and sincere leader. He was described by one of his party members as the most sincere and silent worker a real gift, to the All India Muslim League.
He was also a staunch believer of education amongst muslim women. He had put a lot of time and effort, in planning and realizing the dream of his close friend Justice Syiid Karamet Hussain, who founded a school in 1912, for muslim girls, in Kabootarwali kothi in Qaiser bagh Lucknow. Girls from Syed Zahur Ahmad's family were, among the first six girls who went to that school. In those days muslim girls were observing pardah and going to school was considered outrageous. He said that it is important that girls from the noble families take the lead in education, which will encourage all the other girls to follow the lead.That muslim school later became Karamat Hussain Muslim Girls college,to honour the memory of Justice Syiid Karamat Hussain, which is now a Post Graduate college, in Nishat Gunj, Lucknow.
