Swiggy

Swiggy is an online food delivery service co-founded by Rahul Jaimini, Sriharsha Majety and Nandan Reddy on August 1, 2014. The company run their operations from their headquarters in Bangalore, India.
Initially serving only select Bangalore localities, Swiggy has now expanded operations into 8 Indian cities including Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, and New Delhi.
Platform
Swiggy offer a mobile application on multiple mobile platforms; this is available for download from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Customers can use the application to browse through and order food from restaurants on the list. As of now, Swiggy has tied up with over 9000 restaurants in India.
Payments through online card transactions and cash on delivery are accepted.
Organisation Infrastructure
Unlike other food delivery services (which depend on restaurant staff to deliver food), Swiggy’s business model is built on using their own fleet to carry out deliveries. Swiggy delivery executives pick up the order from the restaurant and deliver it to the customer’s location.
History
Swiggy started out as a small operation, available only across a few areas in Bangalore. Over the course of 17 months, the company has expanded into 8 other cities, and 11 new localities in Bangalore.
This expansion was after April 2015, when Accel and SAIF invested Rs. 12 Crore in Swiggy, helping them expand their services to Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai by the end of the year.
Online ordering
Once the order has been confirmed through the mobile app or website, Swiggy sends it to the restaurant. The delivery executive from Swiggy then picks up the order and delivers it to the desired location. A GPS facility has been integrated into the app, so that customers can view their delivery in real time.
Investments
After raising 105 Crore in a funding round led by Norwest, Swiggy set up operations in Chennai and Pune. After a few more fundings, Swiggy expanded their business to Hyderabad, Kolkata and Gurgaon and widened their market to 8 cities.
The Swiggy franchise is supported by Accel and SAIF. Norwest and Bessemer have also invested more than Rs. 100 Crore in 2016. New York based Harmony Partners and Singapore-based RB Investments have also assisted Swiggy with raising their business capital.
