Sven Sundgaard (born January 17, 1981), a native of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, is the weekend meteorologist (Friday-Sunday) for KARE 11, the NBC television affiliate in the Twin Cities market of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, the fifteenth-largest television market in the United States.
Sundgaard delivers the weather in a state in which local weather forecasts are widely watched and in which weather forecasters often become household names. In addition to delivering the weather, Sundgaard provides educational experiences to classrooms around Minnesota. He is also an avid runner who has participated in marathons.
Prior to being hired by KARE 11, Sundgaard was chief meteorologist for KBJR-TV in Duluth, Minnesota, where he worked from September 2003 to February 2006. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota in May 2003, and received the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society in 2007.
Trivia Sundgaard's father Kip was an Olympian ski jumper, representing the United States in the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria.
