Survivor Zero

Survivor Zero is an upcoming independently produced survival horror video game started by users of reddit. “Survivor Zero” is a sandbox-style survival game set in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.
Game Play
Inspired by the classic zombie genre, it is a survival game. Instead of focusing on combating waves of zombies in high-octane shootouts, the game will allow players the chance to use not only strength but creativity and logic in order to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Survivor Zero is a sandbox style survival game set in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. They also plan to lean more toward the classic zombie flick than the contemporary horror to focus on the original slow moving zombie concept as it mixes with original survival horror game play.
Team Summary
The game is being designed by a group of independent developers, artists, programers, musicians, and writers using the popular news aggregate Reddit to exchange ideas and coordinate their talents. The Reddit gaming community asked for a game that had no time limits, no super bosses, and no plot devices. A user by the name of scorpion44 responded with:
“I am interested in getting together a team to create a Zombie Survival Game. I am a programmer, and have created mods for many games over the past 10+ years. This would require many talented people from coders, artists, mappers etc as well as general input as to game direction. The Unreal Development Kit might be a good place to start from: http://www.udk.com/, other alternatives are some of the open source engines out there (but UTK is nice looking). If interested post in here and PM me. First thing I’ll do is create a mailing list or a forum to kick things off. Any takers?”
He then later stated that the official engine that Survivor Zero would be the Unity 3D game engine.
By July 16th 2011, Survivor Zero had over 630 applications submitted. Submissions ranged from users who had created mods for various popular games to users who actually worked professionally in their respected fields as well as in the gaming industry. As of October 5th 2011, there are 38 developers who are working on Survivor Zero full time. On October 15th 2011 team members officially formed the game studio Element Zero.
Releases
On July 29th 2011, the Survivor Zero development team had their first release to the public. They posted on their official website a screenshot render of a Remington shotgun, 2 pieces of concept art, and 2 wallpapers. Also a new forum was made public as well as several in game tracks released to the sub Reddit by the teams composer and audio lead. Not only could users listen to the tracks but also download them in mp3 format for free. Also the community itself have submitted various Survivor Zero inspired fan art, fiction, game ideas, and have even started a Pandora radio station for other fans.

Game Modes
The developers plan to incorporate different game modes later on, such as Co-op game play and (in the future) modular development opportunities for their fans. They want a game world that the player can call his/her own, but can share with others. A randomly generated world that appeals to various players tastes and lets them truly identify with their experience.
Supported Platforms
The game will be running in the Unity engine and is being coded in C#. The fact that it is running in Unity is interesting for, while it will almost certainly start as a PC exclusive, the possibility exists that the game will be easily portable to other platforms and devices including Mac, Xbox 360 and even mobile platforms. Furthermore, Linux support is being developed by the Unity engine’s development team, hinting towards yet another platform on which the game could appear in the future.
