Superstar is a 2015 Nigerian film that was directed and produced by Tony Abulu. The film focuses on a talented young musician in Nigeria, who leaves the slums in pursuit of becoming famous in the Nigerian music industry. Plot Modele (also Dele) a 22 year old final year undergraduate student leaves school to pursue a music career. He and his manager Ovie meet a lot of obstacles along the way. He has hard times with his mother who did not agree with him venturing in music. He comes across a great opportunity as a famous label from America searches for new talent, and he must produce a mixtape as quickly as possible to get the producer's attention. Cast * Modele(Dele) as Tekno * Ovie as Ushebebe * Toyin Aimakhu * Steph Nora Okere Production For the film, director-producer Tony Abulu chose to include people from Nigeria's music and film industry in the cast, as he felt that "Nigerian music industry just like Nollywood has amazing potential". Nigerian musicians Iyanya and Tekno of Triple MG were chosen to act in the film, marking their acting debut. Toyin Aimakhu was brought on to portray Iyanya's mother and was Aimakhu's first English speaking role. Release Superstar released to theaters in Nigeria on June 5, 2015.
