A superfight is a mega fight between to well-known fighters in boxing and mixed martial arts. Superfights Examples of superfights include: *Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. *Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton *Oscar De La Hoya vs. Felix Trinidad *Thrilla in Manila *The Rumble in the Jungle *Fight of the Century *Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson *The Bite Fight *Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns *Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Marvin Hagler *Muhammad Ali versus Sonny Liston Reasons for Superfights Superfights always include big-name fighters in their respective professions. For instance, Floyd Mayweather was a 5 division world champion and pound for pound the best fighter in the world when he met Oscar de la Hoya who was in turn considered the biggest attraction in boxing and himself being a 6 division world champion.Superfights can also include marketable but not quite superstar caliber fighters. For instance, Ricky Hatton fought Floyd Mayweather in a so-called superfight because Mayweather was pound for pound the best fighter in the world and came off a huge victory against de la Hoya.
