Sudha Pennathur

Sudha is a San Francisco designer from Tiburon, California. A native of New Delhi, she draws upon the art and culture of ancient India as inspiration for her unique designs. Over the last two years she has done extensive work with the master craftsman of India for the major museum shops of the United States. Her work has been featured in the Asian Art Museum and the de Young Museum of San Francisco, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Walters Art Museum and the Asia Society in New York and many other museum exhibition shops.
Sudha started her career in retail and has held significant management positions in such corporations as Allied Stores, and Carter Hawley Hale Stores Inc. She later headed the merchandising arm of the women's fashion division Levi Strauss & Co., the youngest general merchandise manager Levi's ever employed.
Sudha holds undergraduate degrees in both commerce and in statistics and earned an MBA from Pace College. Designs by Sudha was established two years ago to bridge the Eastern and Western cultures through tasteful product interpretation from India. Using age old techniques and skills from India, Sudha will work with a customer like Neiman Marcus to create a collection of gifts and accessories for the contemporary customer.
Sudha's designs are as diverse as hand printed scarves, brocade stoles, jewelry, decorative gifts, miniature paintings, bronze statues, antique tribal designs in paper mache, special hand painted gifts and many other works.
