StreetDrone is an Oxford based start-up, founded in April 2017. The organisation is currently building an open platform for the development of autonomous vehicle technology aimed at the education and R&D sector. In partnership with Renault, the first model, StreetDrone ONE, is based on the Twizy Electric Vehicle platform and is due for release in late 2017. Background StreetDrone was founded by Mark Preston (Team Principal of Techeetah Formula E Team) and Mike Potts (Data analytics specialist, formerly of Havas, Expedia and Coca-Cola) in early 2017. Building on a motorsports background, Potts and Preston sought to reduce barriers to testing and development of autonomous vehicles, making technology more accessible to all aspiring developers, including educational institutions. Through the latter, they also aimed to address the STEM skills gaps faced by the growing driverless vehicle industry. Development The first model, StreetDrone ONE, is set for release in late 2017. The first model will have necessary sensors and electrical equipment to make the Renault Twizy platform autonomous. StreetDrone ONE is being developed in partnership with Renault as part of the POM programme. StreetDrone ONE includes the development of a platform specific operating system, that allows the car to talk to autonomous software and sensors.
