Stevie L.

Steven Lamont Grier, better known as the singer-songwriter and producer Stevie L. was born in Oakland, California, and raised in Antioch. He is the son of Michelle and Maverick Grier.
Early Life & Career
Steven's earliest musical memory was when he was in kindergarten, where he learned how to sing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." As a child, he took piano lessons off and on since the 5th grade. He has never had professional vocal training, but is very flexible with his vocal range. In high school, he played in the school marching band where he played percussion instruments such as the xylophone, marumba, and the piano. He attended various schools such as Deer Valley High School, Mountain View High School and South Mountain High School in Tucson, Phoenix, and California. After graduating high school, he used his time preparing for his music career (October 2007). Then, he attended the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences where he received a certificate in sound engineering and became Protools certified. Shortly after, he was hired on as an intern by Raphael Saadiq at Blakeslee Recording Studio, in North Hollywood, California.
Music career
Steven used to get his haircut at a place which housed a recording studio, in the back. This got him into the producing scene because he was able to bring his keyboard and play music that he produced. He learned about music simultaneously as he worked in the studio and brought people in. He then began working with his cousin Rashee Grier (a.k.a. Carlo Rashee), also a music producer, and Margaret Tobias. Steven took partnership with Rashee Grier and Margaret Tobias to open a recording studio in Hayward, Ca. Today Steven produces his music at Studio 92. A few of his influences are Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Timbaland, The Dream, and Drake. He's a fan of hip hop, r & b, electronic and classics ranging from 1960-1977.
