Steven W. Smith was born July 1968. He is currently married to the former Ashley Cherry of Plano, TX, and the couple have three children: Jewell, Sidney, and Shepherd. He was ordained into the ministry in 1991 at Hillcrest Baptist Church of Dallas, TX. Dr. Smith completed his undergraduate studies at Liberty University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication. He continued his education at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary earning a Masters in Divinity. Dr. Smith earned his PhD from Regent University, researching and writing on the homiletic theory of Francois Fenelon's Dialogues of Eloquence. Dr. Smith has served in local churches in various capacities. He served as the Senior Pastor of Salem Baptist Church from 1995-2003, as well as various other evangelistic and associate pastoral opportunities. Dr. Smith has also served the local church by serving in multiple interim pastorates, pulpit supply opportunities, and speaking engagements. Dr. Smith currently serves as the Vice President for Student Services and Communications at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His former positions at Southwestern include Associate Dean of Professional Doctoral Studies and the Dean of the College at Southwestern. He also serves as a Professor of Preaching and holds the Westmorland Chair of Preaching.
