Steve Vale

He helped Ipswich Town win the FA Youth Cup in 1972/73 beating Bristol City 4-1 over the two legs. Steve scored 6 goals in the competition including 2 in the final. He was the only locally born member of the Ipswich side and the last to sign professional forms, he signed in March 1973 just a month before the final. Despite showing undoubted potential, the strength of Bobby Robson’s Ipswich side who had qualified for the UEFA Cup and won the Texaco Cup the same season, meant that Steve never made a first team appearance and only made a handful of appearances for the reserves.
After being released by Ipswich he was given a trial at Chelmsford City. He came off the bench for the last 20 minutes and scored the forth in a 4 -1 victory over Bishop’s Stortford. He also had a trail with Lowestoft Town, scoring the winner in a 1 - 0 victory over Sudbury.
