Steve Burke is a composer currently employed by Rare Ltd. (Microsoft Game Studios). Steve has worked on a number of games with Rare as a Composer/ Sound Designer. Some of his work includes Viva Pinata (1 and 2), Kameo: Elements of Power, Jetpac Refuelled, and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. He was born in 1974, and grew up on the Isle of Man, UK.
Schooling
Steve studied at King’s College London for his Bachelor of Music Degree. He also studied, at the same time, piano, conducting, and orchestration at the Royal Academy of Music, and ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies. Wanting to focus on composing music for film and games, he was accepted on to the postgraduate Composition course at the Royal College of Music, and received his Masters Degree (MMus RCM) in 1998. After leaving college he worked as an assistant to a film and television composer in London for two years before taking up an offer to join the in-house Music Department at video games developer Rare in early 2001.[http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseactionuser.viewprofile&friendID122858954 [1]]
Works

No details have been released on these games since they are still under development and not ready to be advertised. Also, Steve has done some work on Microsoft XNA projects, and is on the judging panel for Microsoft XNA game competitions in London and Ireland. Sound FX Designer
Steve is a Sound FX Designer for the video games also. Sound FX Designers are the people who come up with such things as the sound of punching and fighting and the characters' voices. Steve has said that, although he splits his time between composing and sound fx 50/50, his favorite part of sound fx is the characters' voices. [http://www.scorenotes.com/steve_Burke.html [2]] He has recorded gun sounds in Boise, Idaho for games such as Perfect Dark Zero and Conker: Live and Reloaded, and directed voice actors in Los Angeles and London.
Accomplishments
Steve has become more well-known in the time since Kameo:Elements of Power and the soundtrack were released. Steve has also worked on many games and projects. Steve has said that, although he enjoys being a composer and Sound FX Designer for video games and will continue to work on video games for, he hopes, some time to come. He still wishes to compose for a film. Steve has admitted to the fact that a goodly part of his CD collection is filled with the soundtracks of various movies and composers.
