David Clynick

David J. Clynick (born in 1969 in Warwickshire, UK) is a British video game composer, sound designer and mix engineer. He has worked at British video game developer Rare since 1999. Amongst his works is music for the games Perfect Dark, its prequel, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts and most recently, Kinect Sports.
Biography and career
David Clynick was born in Nuneaton, but his family moved to Leicester later. His father was a jazz saxophonist and there were always many musical instruments in his house to play. Clynick mostly loved the guitar, but also played the piano. Later in his youth, Clynick bought his own guitar and played in some local rock bands. By his 20s, Clynick was touring around Britain with five piece indie rock band Atama. The group was almost signed to a major label in 1995 when the lead singer tragically died.

Clynick then began exploring other potential outlets for his music. He sent demo reels to various video game and TV companies before being accepted by Rare as a composer in 1999. His first work was 2000 hit shooter Perfect Dark. Grant Kirkhope, one of the major composers at Rare, helped Clynick with the development tools and guided him to compose music fitting the style of the game. Clynick was responsible for about one third of the music, scoring all cutscenes, some music for multiplayer and the levels Crash Site and Attack Ship. Then, Clynick spent five years working as the sole composer of Perfect Dark Zero. He tried to hone the ambient style of the first game whilst adding the military feel of FPS.
Since 2005, Clynick has had many supporting roles in Rare's music department. In Conker: Live and Reloaded he was one of the instrumentalists, while in Jetpac Refuelled and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts he, aside from composing the latter, was mainly a mixer and recording engineer - ironically using an Apple Macintosh. He also recently co - composed the 2010 game Kinect Sports with Robin Beanland.
Personal life
Outside Rare, David lives in Leicestershire with his wife Rachel and two sons.
