Stephen Smith (born 8 August 1948) is a British educator who was headmaster of Bedford Modern School from 1996 and 2009. Early life and Education Born in Shepshed, Leicestershire, he was educated at Loughborough Grammar School and Regent's Park College, Oxford. Career He returned to teach at Loughborough from 1970-1993, serving as Assistant History Master from 1970 to 1987 Junior Housemaster from 1976 to 1979, Head of General Studies from 1983 to 1987, and Head of History from 1987 to 1993. In 1993, he was appointed Deputy Headmaster of Birkenhead School. In 1996, he became headmaster of Bedford Modern School, holding the position until his retirement in 2009. Smith was chairman of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference Sports Sub-Committee between 1998 and 2008, and was a founder and Committee Member of the Forum of Independent Day Schools. He is currently a governor of Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School. He retired in December of 2009, to be succeeded by Michael Hall.
