The fictional wizard of local folklore that was fabled to be the cause of the river medina on the Isle of Wight

He once dwelled in the village of Whitwell, and was married to a beautiful woman. The woman (Name Unknown) was killed by his half brother Marcus Gill, Stephen went into a blind rage and killed Marcus. But in the process sending a huge crack through the island.

The fabled warrior Adam Brown however managed to slay Stephen before the crack split through the island, and later formed the river Medina.

Fabled background
The story says that he was born in the year 603 and died in the year 637

It is however important to remember that this is entirely folklore and no actual proof of any events stated exists, however this story is ofen told to newcomers to the island.
The reason for this was to prevent "outsiders" from entering the local pub, called the White Horse Inn, which was supposedly his home and place of birth. Story tellers claimed that just before his death he cursed the building, stating that anyone who wasn't island born would never be able to drink again after they entered.

Criticisms
The story has been critisised by many residents of Whitwell nowadays, they claim that it's lack of evidence to back up his existence demotes the story, but it however remains a key part of Whitwell's history, and gives an insight into the folklore surrounding the Isle of Wight.
