Stephane Thibaut, also known as Kosen, was a disciple of Taisen Deshimaru for 15 years until Taisen's death in 1982. Kosen received dharma transmission from Master Niwa Zenji, the highest authority of the Soto Zen of Japan, in 1984. This made Kosen the 83rd successor of Buddha Shakyamuni in the Soto Zen tradition (although Niwa Zenji was number 89th). He has since spread Soto Zen further. In 1997, he published his first book, The Inner Revolution. In 1999, he established the Shobogenji temple in Argentina.
