Stefano Nonveiller

Stefano Nonveiller (1723-1805) was a Venetian general and governor. Born in Split, he was a grandson of Naval officer Stefano de Nonveiller (1660-1735). He became Governor of Knin, Dalmatia in 1765, and Governor of Kotor, also on the Adriatic, in 1771. He served as Superintendent of the Republic of Poljica, in central Dalmatia. In May 1783 he became the governor of the city of Sinj, near Split, and helped defeat plague in the city. He was sent in 1789 to Split for the same reasons. He died in Venice in 1805, and his grave is in the church of Santa Maria Zobenigo. Stefano Nonveiller was an ancestor of Yugoslav entomologist Guido Nonveiller (1913-2002).
