Star Trek XII is the currently untitled sequel to J. J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek. It is currently scheduled for release in 2011. Background In June 2008, it was reported that Paramount Pictures were already keen to sign the main producers of the 2009 Star Trek film, J. J. Abrams, Bryan Burk, Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci for a sequel. It was reported in March 2009 that the five had been signed as producers for the film with the script to be written again by Orci and Kurtzman with Lindelof joining the writing team. A preliminary script is thought to be due for delivery by Christmas 2009 for a 2011 release. Cast As is standard practice, the main cast of Star Trek were signed for two sequels. However, it is currently unknown which cast members will be returning for the sequel. William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the original television series and was not included in the 2009 film, has already said that he would be delighted to appear in the sequel. In April 2009, rumors spread that Shatner and Paramount were in talks, but it was later revealed that no such talks had yet taken place.
